Sydney Men’s Shed Chorale Concert
On June 24 the Parish of East Maitland were delighted to welcome the Sydney Men’s Shed Chorale for a return visit to the church. The chorale performed a wonderful and energetic concert led by Musical Director, Keiren Brandt Sawdy, a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Guests were welcomed by Beth Wood, Church Warden together with members of our new Community Building Group. Favourites such as “Danny Boy” and “Amazing Grace” saw the audience humming along as they were treated to an afternoon of choral delights. There was even dancing in the aisle to some of the more up-tempo tunes! The 20 strong Chorale took full advantage of the amazing acoustics of our church building with a repertoire that included Sacred Songs, Welsh Hymns, Ballads, Popular and Musical Theatre – something for everyone! The Parish was delighted to welcome many guests from the local community for this special afternoon.

Samaritans Emergency Relief
Samaritans is calling on the Hunter community to support its Winter Appeal by contributing to its Emergency Relief collection of non-perishable goods at Westfield Kotara on July 5 and 6. Samaritans volunteers and staff will be at Westfield Kotara outside Woolworths on July 5 and 6 to receive contributions to our Emergency Relief collection. You can visit the staff and volunteers from 9am-9pm on Thursday and 9am-5pm on Friday to support their Winter Appeal. Donations of non-perishable goods will be gratefully received. Acting CEO of Samaritans, Brad Webb said, “During winter we experience increased demand at our Emergency Relief centres as people in our local community struggle to put food on the table. This year we’re asking the community to make a small donation for big impact, helping Samaritans to offer more when people are in crisis.
A huge thanks to the parishioners of St Luke’s Wallsend who have generously donated another bootload of food for the Samaritans!

MVAC Foundation Day

The whole College community, including a number of retired staff and former students who had graduated from the College, gathered together for this joyous occasion. Appropriately for Foundation Day, the College also celebrated the liturgical Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul and the apostolic heritage of the Anglican Church. Acting Principal Andrew Jones presided over the assembly which followed the Eucharist and which rejoiced in the rich history of the College.
A Patronal Feast
Not just a liturgical feast, but a shared social feast, as the parish church of St Paul the Apostle celebrated its patronal festival at the Saturday Vigil Eucharist. Parishioners from the Parish of Mt Vincent and Weston joined in a hearty shared meal, as worshippers from all three parish centres joined in the festivities.
